Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has this Thursday 9th February, 2023 released results of the 2022 Uganda Certificate Examinations.
In a function held at the State House, Nakasero, Mary Okwakol the UNEB chairperson said a total of 349,459 candidates registered for the examination from 4,185 Examination Centres. This is as compared to 333,396 candidates that registered for the last UCE examination of 2020, indicating an increase of 16,063 in candidature. 50.3% of the registered candidates were males, while 49.7% were females.
Okwakol said there was a 4.8 percent significant increase in candidature this time, despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 where many learners dropped out of school and teachers resorted to doing other businesses.
“Just like the PLE whose results we recently released, the UCE2022 was also conducted under the threat of Ebola. This was even tougher since it was conducted for 5 weeks. This called for effort from UNEB to ensure that the guidelines put in place were observed,” Okwakol said.
She raised cases of examination malpractice also significantly dropped as compared to the previous years.
Dan Odongo the UNEB Executive Director said in 2022, 345,695 candidates including 173,761 males and 171,934 females appeared for the examination compared to 330,592 candidates who appeared for the examination in 2020.
He said for the first time, the board examined Chinese language in 2022 and a total of 134 candidates sat and 124 (92.5%) of them passed.
“They are in addition to other major languages; French, German, Arabic, Latin & Kiswahili already being examined. The board made adequate arrangements for students with special needs; sign language interpreters were provided, candidates with low vision were given papers with enlarged vision and an extra 45 minutes,” Odongo said.
In addition, he said the prison examination centre registered 51 candidates and all sat. He said eight passed in Division 2, 16 got Division 3, 26 passed in Division 4 while one student failed.
