UCE Exams: How to Check Your Results

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released two sets of results for the 2024 UCE exams. The double release includes the results of the first cohort of learners for the New Lower Secondary Curriculum (NLSC) and the last cohort of learners for the Old Curriculum (Transitional) Examination.

The results were officially released by the Minister for Education and Sports, Mama Janet K. Museveni, at a function at State House Nakasero.”

According to the UNEB Chairperson Prof. Celestino Obua, the benefits of the new curriculum. He explained that students who studied under this system have gained more confidence, improved communication skills, and strong research and project abilities.

He acknowledged that many had concerns about how these learners would transition to UACE, considering the curriculum differences.

However, he reassured the public that adjustments had been made at the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) to align the UACE curriculum with the new system. This will ensure a smooth transition for students moving to the next level.

One of the biggest changes in this year’s UCE 2024 results is the grading system. UNEB has replaced stanine system (which used Distinctions, Credits, Passes, and Fails) with a letter grading system. Under this new system, students will receive grades A, B, C, D, or E.

According to Prof. Obua, this change was made to make results easier to understand and to ensure that grades clearly describe what a student can do rather than just ranking them. The format of the UCE 2024 transcript and certificate has also been updated to reflect this new grading approach.

UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo provided details on the number of students who sat for the UCE 2024 exams. A total of 10,141 candidates from 1,028 schools registered for UCE 2024 exams. Among them, 4,369 were male, while 5,373 were female.

Only 813 students were part of the Universal Secondary Education (USE) program, while 8,929 candidates attended non-USE schools. Unfortunately, 399 students did not sit for the exams, leaving 9,742 candidates who completed their UCE assessments.

UCE 2024 Examinations Were Conducted Under the theme “Embracing Security and Holistic Assessment of Learners in a Dynamic Environment”.

According to Dan Odongo, the theme emphasized the importance of exam security at all stages – A more comprehensive approach to student assessment, focusing on academic knowledge, skills, creativity and character development. It also pinpointed to the impact of technology on education and assessment methods.
