The Examinations Body – UNEB Friday released the outcomes of the Advanced Certificate Examinations with girls scoring higher grades than their counterparts the boys.
According to the UNEB chairperson Prof. Mary Okwakol, a total of 97,889 candidates registered for the examination from 1,969 Centres. Of these, 42% were females while 58% were males.
She said in terms of percentages, female candidates performed better than their male counterparts at the principal level pass (A-E) in Arts (Humanities), Mathematic and Physics. Male candidates were better in Agriculture, Chemistry, Biology, Art and General Paper.
“As was the case in the 2020 examination, female candidates have proportionally (in terms of percentages) performed better than the males at all levels, and have shown a lower failure rate. Even at individual subject levels, they have shown a better performance.”
Okwakol however, said the general performance of the candidates has improved especially at the upper level of candidates obtaining at least three Principal passes. At the other levels, he said the pass rates are comparable.
In his submission, Dan. N. Odongo, the UNEB Executive Director expressed concern on the drop in performance in biology as compared to that of 2020, where it had risen.
“Examiners have attributed this to candidates showing a lot of problems in questions on genetics, and classification, among others,” Odongo said.
He however, applauded the Uganda Police, UPDF, and other security agencies that assisted the Board in ensuring that the examination ran smoothly throughout the country.
