Following scares of a suspected case of the Ebola Virus Disease in Kasangati, a Kampala suburb, the Ministry of Health has dismissed the claims saying that so far no cases have been registered in the capital city.

According to the health minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng who was responding to a tweet from one individual, as of Tuesday all samples tested for the virus in Kampala returned negative.

”As of today, there is no confirmed case of Ebola in #Kampala. All samples tested for Ebola from Kampala turned negative. Right now, we are awaiting the results of the sample tested from Kasangati,” Aceng said adding that they will keep the public informed about any new findings.

She however, called for calmness and vigilance. Aceng implored locals to be cautious because Ebola unlike many other viruses, transmits faster and kills in a short period of time once not attended to. She urged individuals who experience any symptoms to seek early medication.

Ebola is a killer disease caused by the virus. It is spread through contact with bats and monkeys and also through contact with infected persons.

A person infected with Ebola is not contagious before the symptoms appear. The incubation period is two to 21 days.

Among other signs and symptoms, a person suffering from Ebola presents high fever, abdominal pain, joint or body pain, difficulty in swallowing, headache, nausea, vomiting, and rash.
