Following a presidential directive to have schools reopened from January 10, the Ministry of Education and Sports has announced reporting dates for schools in the districts of Kampala, Mukono, Mpigi and Wakiso.
In response to the press release dated January 02, the education ministry stressed that a decision was taken after engagements with all the necessary stakeholders.
“We engaged stakeholders from KCCA, Wakiso, Mukono, and Mpigi district local government, Security, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Works and Transport among others.”
As a result, the ministry says all learners in day schools shall report on January 10 for classes. Learners in boarding schools shall also follow a staggered reporting plan with effect from the same date.
“No boarding students in the concerned districts shall report back to school earlier than January 10,” the Ministry says students including those in international schools whether undertaking day or boarding programme must comply to the same directive.
“Schools which have already communicated to parents a staggered reporting plan that goes beyond January 13 may retain such a plan provided no learners report before January 10,” the ministry adds.
It however, reminds parents and guardians to ensure their school going children are availed with masks to wear while at school in addition to other necessities including sanitizers aimed at preventing the spread of the Covid19.
