The territorial Police in Mubende has arrested and detained 31 people for flouting guidelines against the spread of Ebola disease.
According to Racheal Kawala the public Relations Officer Wamala Region, 13 are health workers allegedly attached to Redcross.
Kawala said the group was arrested at Homeland bar at 1100pm, contrary to guidelines containing the spread of the deadly Ebola virus.
“We have opened up charges of acting in a manner likely to cause spread of the disease.
These will be produced to court as soon as their file is ready. Our operations will continue to enforce,” Kawala said.
This comes at the backbone of increasing Ebola cases in the district. The district has since the latest outbreak been the epicenter of most cases.
During his recent address to the nation, on 15 October 2022, President Museveni imposed a 21-day lockdown on Mubende and Kassanda districts as one of the measures to contain the spread of EVD.
The President also imposed an overnight curfew, ordered the closure of all places of worship and entertainment, in addition to restricting movement in and out of the two districts.
Meanwhile, as of 26 October 2022 according to health ministry, 109 infections have been registered of the Ebola virus of whom 30 have succumbed, 34 treated while 45 have succumbed to it.
More than 10 healthcare workers have since contracted the virus. Of these, five have succumbed to it.
