The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has intensified enforcement of regulations requiring all bus drivers to possess a driver’s badge issued by the Chief Licensing Officer of the Ministry of Works and Transport.

According to the Public Relations Officer, Michael Kananura, Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the directive based on Section 42(1)(e) of the Traffic and Road Safety Act (CAP.347) is aimed at enhancing road safety compliance.

Kananura said drivers who fail to adhere to this requirement risk severe penalties, including imprisonment of up to seven years as outlined in Section 42(2) of the same act.

“To ensure compliance, the ministry has reminded all bus drivers to collect their badges, which are provided free of charge. Starting Wednesday, November 4, 2024, checkpoints will require all bus drivers to present a valid badge before proceeding with passengers,” he said, adding that any driver found without a badge will face legal action.
