The Ministry of Health has reiterated that allegations from several media sources linkening to government’s plan to suspend free medical services is false and baseless.
In a statement released last week on Friday, the Ministry said the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Diana Atwine contrary to what was alleged by in a Daily Monitor publication did not indicate that there is any plan to ban the free services.
The Ministry rather said the Permanent Secretary, who was officiating at the launch of the corporate society for the Safe Motherhood in Kampala last Friday, said that government would like to fast track the National Health Insurance Scheme where all Ugandans can pool resources to access a wide range of medical services.
“Our attention has been drawn to an inaccurate and misleading news article “Government seeks ban on free medical services” published in the Daily Monitor of Friday, 19th May, 2023 where the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine was misquoted,” Emmanuel Ainebyoona the Ministry Senior Public Relations Officer wrote.
In addition, he said the Ministry is committed to ensuring that Ugandans receive improved and better free medical services in all the government health facilities countrywide.
