Makerere University administration has directed that all first year students starting from 2021/2022 academic year will be required to report for studies with laptops.
According to the University Academic Registrar Alfred Masikye-Namoah, this will help ease on the burden students have been facing in recent years of having to access computer labs each time they want to make research.
“All freshers MUST have laptop computers as one of the essential tools for study purposes for their programmes,” Masikye said. This is the first time such a directive has been passed at the University.
Meanwhile, freshers are expected to report on January 29. The group will be taken through one week of orientation which will run for seven days up to February 4, 2022 according to Masikye.
The Academic Registra said the university has already made arrangements to ensure that all freshers are taken through guidelines and standards needed at the university.
“Arrangements are also made to enable the Freshers acquaint themselves with such key facilities at the University like the Library, University Hospital, Games and Recreation Facilities among others,” Masikye noted.
As a result, he urged them to ensure they report earlier enough so that they don’t miss the training. He said this will help them get exposed to the university environment.
“During this period all freshers shall report to their respective Colleges for meetings with the University officials starting at 9.00 am every day. College Principals and Registrars will issue the orientation programmes for their Colleges.”
