The Education Minster Janet Museveni has called on all tertiary institutions that resumed studies to avoid relaxing the Covid19 saying that the pandemic is still fast spreading.
“I call upon all Tertiary Institutions where TVET also falls, that even as you have re-opened to learners, do not let your guards down from observing the SOPs. The Covid19 is still with us,” the First Lady made the remarks while handing over a total of 17 vehicles to Technical Vocational Education Training Institutions as part of the drive to enhance capacity building.
Some of the beneficiary Technical Vocational Education Training Institutions included in UTC Bushenyi, Elgon, Lira; Bukalasa Agricultural College; Karera Technical Institute, Nyamitanga, Lake Katwe, Kaberamaido, Ora, Kitgum, Kalongo; Ssese Farm Institute, and Rwentanga.
Speaking about this, Janet promised that when the government gets access to more resources, it will be looking to forward to retooling more academic institutions in a bid to ensure more and more pupils are equipped with skills on hand.
She however, warned that these vehicles should not be held as personal vehicles but use them for institutional work including moving trainees to the world of work and industries. “I therefore, urge the institutions to be good stewards of what has been entrusted to them by the government,” she implored.
“Once the government gets more resources, we shall gradually see to it that more institutions are re-tooled with transport means. The current Uganda Skills Development Project (USDP) covers only 16 beneficiary TVET institutions around the country,” she added.
