Education Minister Janet Museveni Tuesday commissioned the official reopening of the new building for the School of Dentistry and the Central Teaching Facilities 1 and 2 in addition, to laying foundation stones for the reconstruction of the Makerere University main building and that of the School of Law.

The Central Teaching Facilities 1 and 2 will among others, house lecture rooms, administrative offices, boardrooms, a 1,000 seater auditorium, and study rooms. Speaking about the milestorm, Museveni applauded the management team at Makerere University for the being good stewards by ensuring the university is run in the best way possible.

”I am both honored and humbled to lay a foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Makerere University Main Administration building and the School of Law. It is my prayer that God will indeed be the foundation of the structure and for the University for all time. I applaud the Makerere University Council led by Mrs. Lorna Magara, the management team led by Prof. Nawangwe, and the entire team for the work you do. Thank you for being good stewards of what has been entrusted to you, and for providing leadership to this great Institution,” Museveni said.

”I was last here on 20th September 2020,following the fateful night in which our main administration Building was burnt. It was a sad day not just for Makerere but for our nation and the other nations at large, because Makerere has educated many people. I am also glad that today I return not in a sad note, but on a victorious note to lay a foundation stone and I come at a time when the pandemic has subsided and our children are back in school and we are all back to work.”

In addition, she called on the entire country to seek God’s guidance and help so that the University continues to grow and reach greater heights for generations to come.

”We must therefore, seek God’s guidance and help as we raise new foundations, rebuild the waste places and repair the broken walls, restoring the one of our guiding scripture at the Ministry of Education is isaiah 61:4, which says “They shall rebuild the ancient ruins, they shall raise up former devastations, they shall repair the ruined cities and devastations of many generations” she added.

Meanwhile, on his side, the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe commended the First Lady and government at large for the untiring efforts in making Makerere a world-class University. He pledged that the university will put to good use all these facilities in a bid to transform Uganda’s social-economic development.

“You have had direct input in raising the resources for all these projects, costing more than UGX 60 billion and we thank you very much. Let me also take this opportunity to thank you for your efforts in raising funds for the construction of a teaching and research hospital for Makerere as well as your personal intervention in protecting the University’s land in Katanga. Mama, please accept our most profound gratitude for all these efforts and for your unenduring love for Makerere University and higher education in Uganda,” Nawangwe said.
