The Ministry of Health Sunday confirmed one fatal Ebola case in Kayalwe B village, Buyengo sub-county in Jinja district.

According to Jane Ruth Aceng the Health Minister, the case was of a 45-year-old male, a brother to a probable case who was linked to the Rubaga cluster.

Dr. Aceng said the suspect’s brother travelled to Jinja where he was ill for 10 days and passed on the 3rd November 2022. She said the confirmed fatal case also died at his home on 10th November and was buried on 12th November.

“A sample was obtained on the 10th from the dead body, by healthworkers from St Catherine Medical center, Luzinya Buwenge, a private clinic where he had sought treatment before passing on. Contact tracing and epidemiological investigations have been activated,” Aceng said.

She in addition, urged individuals who experience any Ebola-like symptoms to desist from going into hiding saying this exposes even more people to the virus.

“Fellow Ugandans, let’s remain vigilant! if you have had contact with an Ebola case, do not run away, report to the nearest public health facility,” she added.

As of 6 November 2022, a cumulative total of 135 cases have been registered since the onset of the virus with 53 deaths and 62 recoveries in nine districts categorized as very high risk.

A cumulative total of 23 children have so far been confirmed to have the virus with nine deaths.

Out of the affected children, a total of 11 children including five in Kampala, one in each of Mubende and Wakiso were school going at the time of onset of Ebola symptoms in five schools across the affected districts.
