The First Lady Janet Museveni who also doubles as the Minister of Education and Sports has called on Arts teachers to remain focused saying that government will soon handle the issue of remuneration.
“Please leave the matter of remuneration to your mother ministry, it our burden that we shall tackle with the Ministry of Public Service. You go ahead and do your best and trust God to do the rest,” Museveni said shortly after the release of the 2022 UCE results.
She said government is still looking into the arts teachers’ situation and soon a fair solution will be met.
“This is our burden, and we will not rest until a fair solution is found. Go ahead and do your best and trust God to do the rest,” she added.
Meanwhile the 2022 UCE results were released with a total of 1,035 exams withheld for reported examination malpractice. Speaking about this, Museveni said the Board has strong penalties for any parties found or caught engaging in the act.
345,695 candidates including 173,761 males and 171,934 females sat for the examination compared to 330,592 candidates who appeared for the examination in 2020.
For the first time, the board examined Chinese language in 2022 and a total of 134 candidates sat and 124 (92.5%) of them passed. Chinese was done in addition to other major languages including French, German, Arabic, Latin and Kiswahili.
On this, the First Lady said these foreign languages will not only build strong relationships with other nations but also help strengthen individual competitiveness in the global village.
“It is noteworthy that UNEB examined Chinese for the first time. This is a welcome development given the increased level of engagement between Uganda and China. Foreign languages help strengthen our competitiveness in the global village,” she added.
