The Ministry of Health Saturday announced three new deaths from Covid19 pushing the death tally in Uganda to 3,297 cases.
Similarly, the ministry also confirmed 1,867 new cases from tests done on 30 December 2021 pushing the cumulative confirmed cases in the country to 142,604.
In a statement annoucing the new findings, the ministry said 1,818 cases were from the contacts and alerts including 1,031 from Kampala, 286 from Wakiso, 75 from Gulu, 64 from Soroti, 34 from Jinja, 25 from Rakai, 23 from Kibuku, 22 from Kayunga, 20 from each of Mbale and Mbarara, 19 from Sironko, 18 from Iganga, 17 from Masindi, 16 from Kyotera, and 14 from Mayuge while 13 cases were from districts of Bududa and Luweero respectively.
Others included; 12 cases from Oyam, nine from Tororo, eight cases from each of Abim and Buyende districts. Mukono, Busia, Nakasongola and Adjumani all registered seven cases.
Districts including Kalaki, Namisindwa, Kitagwenda, and Hoima all registered six cases, three cases from Amuru districts, two cases from districts of Gomba, Amuru, Kiruhura, Kiryandongo and Kabarole respectively while districts including Kabale, Butaleja, Moroto, Wakiso, Mukono and Arua all had a single case.
Meanwhile, 49 cases were from truck drivers imcluding 25 registered from Tororo district, 23 from Kyotera while one driver from Amuru district also tested positive.
The new findings come only one day following President Museveni’s address to the nation marking the end of the year 2021.
Part of his speech, the president promised full reopening of the economy towards the end of January however, he raised that the decison can be reversed once government notices a rapid surge in Covid19 infections. Now with these new findings, we shall wait and see how it fizzles out.
