According to a police statement released on Monday, security officers in the Rwizi cattle corridor have arrested a suspected livestock thief following a K9-led operation in Kiruhura District.
Police said the arrest followed an incident reported on the morning of 16 November 2025, when Nayeebare Aggrey, a resident of Sanga Town Council, woke up to check his kraal and found blood around the enclosure. He discovered that some of his goats and sheep had been slaughtered, and three sheep were missing. He immediately reported the suspected livestock theft to Sanga Police Station.
In response, a team from the K9 Unit and detectives was dispatched to the scene at Akabaare Cell. After examining the area, the police sniffer dog picked up a scent and followed it for approximately 70 metres, leading officers directly to the home of Nuwamanya Joshua.
The police further said, the suspect was found at home with pangas believed to have been used in the slaughter. He was arrested and taken into custody at Sanga Police Station to assist with ongoing livestock theft investigations.
Police said the successful operation highlights their continued efforts to combat rising cases of animal theft in Kiruhura and across the wider Rwizi cattle corridor.
