AMURU: Launched in March 2021, the sh6.69bn Piped Water Project which was meant to help curb the problem of scarcity of safe drinking in Elegu town is ready for commissioning.
According to the Amuru District Water Officer, Robinson Payolem, at least 10,000 locals in Elegu Town Council are apparently getting safe drinking water following the completion of the Elegu 6.7 Billion Water Project which now only awaits commissioning by the government.
“This water project is most likely to be commissioned in not less than one month’s time from now. This has brought so much joy to our people”, said Payolem.
He however, revealed this piped water has helped solve the problem of clean water that was rampant as a result of regular flooding.
Payolem says many of the locals are already using the water despite the fact that it has not yet been commissioned.
“I can see that at least 80 percent of the Elegu shall benefit from this pipe water”, Payolem said users shall be required to pay some pocket friendly charges depending on the distance in order to have access to the water under a contracted regular.
Stephen Odong Latek, the Amuru Resident District Commissioner (RDC) said most of the towns on Gulu-Juba Highway including Pabo, Atiak, Bibia and Elegu shall be fully connected from the same piped water.
Latek however, mentioned they are very thankful to the government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment.
Progress on the 2.8 billion Atiak Water Project
Similarly, a 2.8 Billion Atiak Water Project is also close to completion with 90 percent of the work completed. It is likely that both water Projects shall be commissioned together in the next one month.
Both projects are funded by the government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment.
