President Yoweri Museveni in his speech to the country read out by the Vice President Rt. Hon Jessica Alupo has lifted the lockdown in Kassanda and Mubende districts.
“There are currently no cases on admission for Ebola. It is against this background that I am lifting all movement restrictions in Kassanda and Mubende with immediate effect,” Alupo read.
She said government has taken the decision to lift the lockdown in these two districts after over 10 days of no new infections.
The Vice President however, stressed the Ministry of Health will remain at the forefront in conducting burials of all dead bodies in Mubende until at least the allocated 42 days are finished.
Alupo also reminded that mortality surveillance in Kassanda, Mubende, Masaka, Jinja, Kampala and the country as a whole must continue in a bid to ensure that no transmission chains are missed.
Meanwhile, She commended the general public for adhering to earlier advise from experts. She said this has helped suppress the virus and avoid multiple infections.
“I want to thank all Ugandans for listening to my advice and adhering to the health ministry guidelines. With concerted efforts and through a wholistic society approach, we managed to stop further transmissions in Kagadi, Bunyangabu, Kyegegwa, Masaka, Jinja, and Kampala districts,” Alupo commended.
As of today, there have been 142 confirmed cases of Ebola including 56 deaths and 86 recoveries with no more contacts under follow-up.
Mubende has been the most affected followed by Kassanda. The two districts have been the epicenter for the most Ebola cases in the country.
