A 28-week male stillborn has tested positive for the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) pushing the cumulative confirmed cases in Uganda to 142.
According to the Ministry of Health, the stillborn is a child to a 23 year old Ebola survivor mother and a resident of Kikandwa, Kasanda district.
“The mother, is a 23 year old resident of who had stillbirth. She was attended to during delivery by an appropriately donned midwife and is in good condition. Routine contact tracing and additional case investigation are ongoing,” the Ministry stated further.
This comes days after President Museveni in his speech to the nation last week extended the lockdown in Mubende and Kassanda to 21 more days up to 17th December 2022.
Mubende and Kassanda as the epicenter of most cases of the latest virus have the lowest recovery rates at 45% (29/64 cases) and 42% (20/48) respectively. Kampala has the highest recovery rate of 83% (15/18 cases).
Museveni however, said these districts continue to register progress in controlling the epidemic as observed by the number of days since the last confirmed case was registered.
He said six districts including Mubende, Kassanda, Kampala, Wakiso, Jinja, and Masaka are still under follow up with suspected imported cases, plus or minus secondary transmission.
