UNEB refutes claims of possible PLE leakage

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has reiterated there has not been any leakage of the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) papers ahead of the exams scheduled for November 8th and 9th, 2022.

Earlier this week, information circulated on various social media platforms of two individuals that were allegedly distributing what is said to be national examinations to schools in return for money.

“It’s a significant problem, and the police are reportedly pursuing the suspects. However, if the documents they were selling are accurate, that means that there was a leakage within the organization, which will result in an internal shake-up…The board is serious about combating malpractice,” an side source within UNEB said.

However, in response, the Examinations body has come out to refute that the said allegations are false and baseless.

In a statement, Jennifer Kalule Musamba the Principal Public Relations Officer, UNEB, the two cases were not in respect of the forthcoming PLE and that there is no evidence to show that they were connected to exam malpractice.

“Reference is made to a statement attributed to me indicating that primary leaving examination papers have leaked, ahead of the start of the said examination, next week. I would like to clarify that the two cases referred to during the joint police biefing on Monday October 31, were in respect of purported UCE eamination papers that were circulating on social media,” Ms. Musamba said.

“This is therefore to explain that the cases of two people under investigation that I referred to were not in respect of the forthcoming PLE. Mostly importantly, the Board wishes to reiterate that there has not been any Leakage of the primary leaving examinations papers. We call upon the public to ignore messages indicating that there has been such a leakage.”

In addition, she said as UNEB, they have put up stringent measures to ensure that no examination leakages are witnessed in schools.

“We have so far managed to achieve this for UCE, and similar arrangements are in place for primary leaving examinations, due next week. UNEB strongly warns the public against involvement in any form of examination malpractice. We call upom anybody with useful information related to the ongoing UNEB examinations to report to police immediately or inform the Board using our toll free lines; 080011427; 0800211077,” she added.
