The Ministry of Health has announced that vaccination of children will only be considered after written consent from parents.
Earlier on, a number of sources on various social media platforms have been indicating that the Ministry is going to start vaccinating children from the age of 12 to 17.
However, in the wake of these allegations, the Ministry has said this will only be possible after a parent has consented to have their children vaccinated.
In a statement, Dr. Henry Mwebesa the Director General Health Services said discussions are still ongoing with all stakeholders including parents on how to go about with the situation.
“Attention has been drawn to several media posts stating that the Ministry plans to vaccinate children aged 12-17 years old against Covid19 with or without their parents’ consent, the Ministry would like to categorically state that this is COMPLETELY FALSE,” Mwebesa said.
“The Ministry would like to reiterate that no child will be vaccinated against Covid19 against their parent, guardian or caretaker’s consent. This will be upheld during the vaccination of children.”
He added that in case of any further changes, the Ministry together with the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and Vaccine Advisory Committee (VAC) will inform the public accordingly.
