The Ministry of Health has called on the general public to optimise the existing control measures saying that the Covid19 has hit a rising stage once again with scores of cases in the recent one week.
In a tweet, the Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng said they have started experiencing an increase in the daily number of COVID-19 cases compared to the stable trends observed since January 2022.
Aceng says the increase is similar to the rise witnessed in the country in June 2021 when the Delta variant was prevalent. She however, assured that the rise in cases comes at a time when the country is in a stable condition to respond to them but called on locals to remain vigilant and observe all the necessary Standard Operating Procedures.
”However, as a country, we are well prepared to respond and save lives than before. We have no indication for travel restrictions, or lockdown in the current circumstances. We will optimize the existing control and mitigation tools at personal and community levels. These measures include: vaccination for all individuals, wearing of face masks at all times especially for the vulnerable population and, hand washing,” Aceng urged.
”As the COVID-19 situation keeps evolving, the importance and effectiveness of a booster dose vaccine becomes more relevant than ever. We need to protect those 50 years and above, those with co-morbidities and everybody. Let’s get vaccinated/boosted and consistently wear face masks. Avoid mass gatherings as these are potential super spreader events. The omicron variant prevalence is now low, and may be mild, but causes severe disease and death for those with underlying risks,” she added.
This meanwhile comes at a time when the Ministry has since registered 163,301 cases of Ugandans infected with the virus. Of these, 100,021 cumulative recoveries have been witnessed while over three thousand individuals have succumbed to it.
